A New Pattern is Almost Here

I've seen lots of hats that are crocheted and lots that are knitted, but not a combination of both. So, somewhere in my mind the idea emerged to design a hat that has the best of both.   It's called "The Square Hat."
Worked in worsted weight yarn, it's quick, stylish and quite fun to make. If you check my Etsy shop tomorrow, it should be up and running.

Guess who's Coming to the Party?

Yesterday was our youngest grandson's birthday party. Little Carter will be turning 4 years old on Tuesday.
They had his party at the California Living Museum, so you might say that there were many unusual guests!
Of course, we all enjoyed seeing these amazing animals. Many are there because they've been injured and need a safe environment.
If you're ever in the Bakersfield area, this is a must see!

A Stormy Night on the Mountain....

Everything seemed just fine weathewise when we decided to call it a night. Then, without warning at 1:30 a.m., the extreme winds and rain arrived from the south. We both flew out of bed, put on our coats and hats and rushed out to shut off the wind turbine. It took quite awhile to do it because the winds just wouldn't let up. You definitely don't want to put the brake on when it's spinning like crazy.
By morning everything had quieted down except for the rain and our mountaintop was shrouded with clouds. I decided this would be a good day to stay home and knit.
I finished my grandson's socks and hat for his winter church camp and I think he'll be pleased. His best friend Tanner, is also going, so I'm just finishing up a hat for him also. Then I can get back to cranking out more socks and working on the design that I told you about ages ago.

Life on a Hobby Farm

Morning arrives early as the sun's rays hit our mountain. It always brings a huge smile to my day. For 35 years I had a view of roof tops, but now I step out my front door and see a gorgeous mountaintop.

The girls start their morning with lots of squawking that tells me they want their breakfast!

Lucy had a few bites and then headed inside her house to lay an egg. I always thank them for their contributions!
This morning the girls had corn on the cob, romaine, spinach, a bit of plain cherrios and of course their layers crumble.
Yesterday we were in the "big" city and picked up 3 more fruit trees - 2 cherry and 1 red delicious. We've decided to add a few trees every year to our small orchard. In Knitting News: The main reason I was in Bakersfield was to order the die for our knitting product. It'll actually be made down in Los Angeles and then brought up to the printer here. They were kind enough to show me their HUGE die cutting machine that was totally awesome. On my next visit I'll try to remember my camera to get a picture of it. Getting a product ready to market is much more time consuming than I had realized. Keeping costs down is our primary objective, so finding the right resources takes a tremendous amount of time.

Let's Do It Again...........

Let's have another little giveaway just because we're all so cold and need some winter cheering up! Sound good? Just leave a comment on this post and tell everyone what your favorite knitting project is at the moment. Be sure to leave contact info such as Ravelry to make it easy for me. On Friday, January 18th, I'll randomly draw one lucky name to win this skein of "Bungee" sock yarn from Plymouth Yarn Co. It's a 95% superwash merino wool/5% elite spandex blend. Yep, it s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s! It's a 100g skein with approximately 403 yards and gives a suggested 7 sts to the inch on size U.S. 3 needles. AND it's made in Italy. Good luck and I'll see you all on Friday. Oh, and by the way, my daughter and I are working on a new idea to market to knitters. We're probably less than a month out with this product and hope to share it with you as soon as possible! WE'RE SO EXCITED ABOUT IT AND CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT UP AND RUNNING!

Time For Extra Warm Socks

My oldest grandson, Spencer, is heading off to winter church camp next month. It's high in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California so the weather is sure to be icy cold - especially at night. He asked if I'd make him a red cap (which I will) but I decided that some warm worsted weight socks will be needed also. It's so fun to be able to knit for your grandkids AND that they really appreciate your effort, too!

And the Socks Are Going To........

Purlescence on Ravelry!  Congratulations Lisa!

Lisa, please email me at tehachapisockcompany@gmail.com with your mailing address and I'll rush down to the post office this morning.

I hope that you all had a fun time with this giveaway.  I know for many of you, this movie was unknown, but it's a great classic and worth seeing.  And of course, the music by Henry Mancini was absolutely amazing.

Thanks for all your comments and I will look forward to our next giveaway.

It's That Time Again.......

Let's have a sock giveaway for this pair of women's size M socks.  They're made with Plymouth Yarn Company's "Sockin' Sox" sock yarn which is a 60% wool, 25% bamboo and 15% nylon blend.

(FOR SOME WIERD REASON, BLOGGER ISN'T ALLOWING ME TO DOWNLOAD A PHOTO AT THIS TIME........I'LL ADD IT AS SOON AS THEY FIX THE PROBLEM)

Here's the catch tho.  I love good movies and great soundtracks.  What does that have to do with knitting?  Absolutely nothing!  I love making my husband guess what song is playing on my CD and who wrote it.  Quirky I know, but it's kind of a game to me and makes me laugh.  SO....... here's the two part question for you to answer:

Who wrote the music to the movie, "Hatari" AND who starred in it?

Leave your answer on this post along with contact info (like Ravelry, etc.) and on Tuesday morning (California time), January 8th, I'll randomly draw one lucky name to win these socks.

See you then.

A Busy Day for Doris..................

"Doris" has been cranking away and she'll make 4 more socks today.  If I keep with this schedule, I'll have this order done in 5 more days.  Think I'll put some good music on (like the Beach Boys) and start cranking!

Don't you just love these colors?

I love them all, but my two favorites are:

This one and..........

This one!  Yummy indeed!

And since it's a new year, I think it's time that we have a giveaway very, very soon.  In fact, be sure to check back in on Saturday when I'll announce our next one.  I have a feeling that it will be a pair of socks!  Tomorrow I have to work on my inventory and prepare our tax stuff and figure our sales tax due the state of California!

See you all on Saturday.

Hello 2013!

I always look at the first day of the new year as another chance for a new beginning.  It's a day that I look back at 2012 and thank the Lord for all His wonderful blessings and also a day to hope and dream of things to come in the new year.

One of my priorities that I always do (after watching the Rose parade) is pull off last year's calendar from the side of the frig and bring out my new one.  I then transfer all important dates from the previous year to each month so that I don't forget those special days - birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

And one thing dear to my heart is to make special notation of the birthdays of loved ones that have passed away.  I think it's extremely important to remember them in this way so that I can still wish them a happy birthday and reflect on their lives and how they touched mine.

May 2013 hold special blessings for you and your family.
